General Giving Back

Giving back: #ForceForFood

I'm hosting a Virtual Food Drive, supporting the Jacobs and Cushman San Diego Food Bank to try and raise awareness about hunger and mobilize my local Salesforce Communities to provide food for our neighbors in need. For every $1 donated, the Food Bank can distribute 5 meals to those in need.

There are some definite Pros to working with cloud based platforms like Salesforce, none of which has become more apparent lately than being able to work from home. I sometimes complain about working from home. I miss my office and my coworkers and my free lunch and all the other perks that come from working in an office but when I pause and think about all the people who aren’t able to work from home, about those who have to show up to work every day in the middle of a pandemic or about those who aren’t able to work at all anymore, I just feel lucky. SO LUCKY. Covid-19 has affected my life, of course. The kids aren’t physically at school, its hard to do activities outside of the house, and I’m so sick of wearing a mask that sometimes I’d just rather stay home. But I still have my job, and all of the hours that job provides, and all of the benefits that job provides. And I am so so thankful for that. I’m not sure why it’s taken me an entire year to do this, but I want to give back. I see all of the people in need and I want to help.

#ForceForFood

I’m hosting a Virtual Food Drive, supporting the Jacobs and Cushman San Diego Food Bank to try and raise awareness about hunger and mobilize my local Salesforce Communities to provide food for our neighbors in need. For every $1 donated, the Food Bank can distribute 5 meals to those in need. To make that sound even more awesome – that means that for every $100 we can donate, that is 500 meals that get distributed to people who aren’t as lucky as we are.

Since March 2020, the San Diego Food Bank has been feeding an estimated 600,000 people per month due to oaring unemployment and COD-19’s devastating impact on our local economy. That includes feeding children at 60 elementary schools in 11 school districts and over 2,000 homebound seniors in lockdown. You can see the full (and amazing) impact report at the SD Food Bank website here.

Help Me Make an Impact

I have a starting goal of $2500 – that’s 12,500 meals that will go to those in need! What an amazing impact that would make for our San Diego community. I’m calling on all of our local San Diego Salesforce User Groups, Admins, Developers, Non-Profits, Marketers, and Customers to help make this impact a reality. If you’ve been as lucky as I have been, or can just afford to help out, please open your hearts and your wallets and contribute. The Food Bank has set up this awesome Virtual Food Drive for us. All you have to do is click “start” and then drag your selections to the scanner to be added to your cart. Checkout using a debit or credit card and BOOM – you just made an amazing contribution.

Please share the Food Drive link using the hashtag #ForceForFood (which I totally stole from another user group who used it in 2015, but it’s so perfect!) to get the word out!
